Manipulation of fire may be the key to the rise of Homo sapiens “above” the rest of the beasts and fowl of the world. Apart from cooking and tool making, the application of fire to the landscape has allowed for mankind to alter the world for the benefit of ourselves and, through our integral relationship with nature, the rest of the creatures of the Earth. This class will cover why fire on the landscape is beneficial, and how to safely execute prescribed burns. Weather conditions permitting, a small burn will be conducted with participants.
